Need to Make a Claim?
Follow the steps below to learn how to make a claim through Alberta Blue Cross®.
Attention to Returning Students at Ambrose University

The ASC Extended Health and Dental Plan through Student VIP will be terminated on August 31, 2025.
You can continue to submit claims for costs incurred or services rendered up to and including the termination date of August 31, 2025. 

Deadlines for Claims Submission are as follows:

Health & Dental Claims - Alberta Blue Cross
Members can submit claims by mail only for up to 12 months following the termination date of the policy. Students will no longer have access to the Mobile App or Web Portal as of the termination date.

Travel Claims - Medavie Blue Cross
Claims must be received by Medavie Blue Cross within 90 days following the termination date of the policy.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Coverage - Wawanesa
Claims must be received by Wawanesa within 180 days following the termination date of the policy.

How to Register for the Alberta Blue Cross® Portal:

  1. Go to www.ab.bluecross.ca
  2. Click Sign In – Select Plan member
  3. Click Not Registered Yet? below the sign in information
  4. Enter your personal information as outlined below:
  • Enter your last name
  • Enter your Group/Policy Number which is 23710
  • Enter your ID Number: Your 6 Digit Student Number + "-01"
    Example: If your Student Number is 123456, your Alberta Blue Cross® ID Number would be 123456-01
  • Enter your birth date
  1. Select Next
  2. Enter and confirm your email address, Click Next
  3. Create a Login ID, Click Next
  4. Create and confirm your Password, Click Next
  5. Select and answer security questions incase you get locked out of your account, Click Next
  6. Agree to the website’s terms of use by Checking the Box, click Enter the Site

First, you must download the Alberta Blue Cross 'My Benefits' app from the App Store or Google Play.

Making a Claim on the My Benefits Mobile App:

You are able to submit claims for Drugs, Extended Health, Vision & Dental on the Mobile App.

To make a claim, you will first need to register and log in to the Alberta Blue Cross System. (Instructions to register for the Alberta Blue Cross® Member Website can be found HERE).  
 

  1. Select Submit a Claim from the main menu
  2. Select the Type of Claim you’d like to make
  3. Select which patient the claim is for (you or your dependent(s))
  4. Verify whether or not you (or your dependent) have coverage through any other external benefit carrier
  5. Confirm or Edit your banking information and email address
  6. Agree to the Terms of Use, click Next
  7. Enter your claim details (these should be found on your receipt) and click Save
  8. Review your claim information for accuracy, click I have more to add or if you’re finished, click I’m ready to submit

It takes 3-5 business days to process a claim starting the first business day after submitting your claim.
 

How to check your claim status:

While using the Alberta Blue Cross My Benefits Mobile App, you can check your claim status by simply clicking the "Recent Claims" from the main menu.

Please note: It takes 3-5 business days to process a claim starting the first business day after submitting your claim.
If you are unable to view your claim, it has likely been pulled for processing and will appear back on the system after this is complete.

Making a Claim on the Member Website:

You are able to submit claims for Drugs, Extended Health, Vision & Dental on the Member Website.

  1. Select Your Claims from the main menu

  4. Read through the Terms of Use, check the box confirming that you’ve read them and click Next
  5. Select which Patient the claim is for (you or your dependent(s)), and select Yes or No depending on whether or not you have coverage through another benefit carrier
  6. Enter your claim details (these should be found on your receipt) and click Add Claim and then Next
  7. Review your claim information for accuracy, Read and Accept the member consent and Declaration, and click Submit

How to check your claim status:

Using the Portal, you can check your claim status by clicking "Your Claims" from the main menu, then "Your Recent Claims".

Prescription Drug, Extended Health Care (EHC), or Vision Claim:

To submit a claim manually for an expense for Prescription Drugs, Extended Health (i.e. practitioner appointment, medical equipment & supplies, orthotics, etc.), or Vision you can follow this process:

  1. Download and complete the Health Claim Form
  2. Attach copies of your receipts
  3. Submit your claim to Alberta Blue Cross® via mail at:

Mailed claims can take up to 10 business days to process due to mail time.

 

Dental Claims:

To submit a dental claim manually, please follow one of the processes below:
 

Using Standard Dental Claim Form from Dental Office:

  1. Complete Part 1 if not already completed by your dental office
       Do not sign the assignment of benefits section or the claim will not be processed correctly.
  2. Complete Part 2 - Employee/Plan Member Section
       Group Policy #: 23710
       Employer: Ambrose Students Council
       Name of Insuring Agency or Plan: Alberta Blue Cross®

       Certificate #: Your 6-Digit Student Number + "-01" 
       Ex.  If your student number is 123456, then your Certificate number is 123456-01 
  3. Complete Part 3 - Patient Information
       Relationship to Employee/Plan Member: Self (unless for dependent)
  4. Complete Remaining Questions
     

Completing Form using Student VIP or Alberta Blue Cross Dental Claim Form:

  1. Give Student VIP Dental Claim Form to dental office for completion
       Do Not sign the assignment of benefits section or the claim will not be processed correctly.
  2. Complete Part 3 - Patient Information
       Relationship to Employee/Plan Member: Self (unless for dependent)
  3. Complete Remaining Questions

Your travel coverage is provided by Medavie Blue Cross™. Your Travel policy number is 92670.

If you have returned home from your trip and need to make a claim:

Please ensure that you have clear copies of all receipts and treatment information.

For medical claims abroad (doctor visits, hospital visits, x-rays, lab work, etc.), please complete the Travel Claim Form and submit as requested.

For trip cancellation or interruption please complete this form. The attending physician form found here must also be completed if your trip cancellation or interruption is due to medical reasons.

For baggage claims, please complete this form.

What is an Accident?

An accident means a sudden, unforeseen, fortuitous event caused by a bodily injury resulting directly or independently of all other causes from an accident which is caused by external, violent and visible means and sustained while an Insured Person is covered under this policy. Injury must result within a 365-day period after the date of the accident.


Accident claims will first be considered under your Extended Health or Dental benefits, any balances will then be considered under the Student Accident benefits.


Expenses for accidents will be considered if: 

  • Within 30 days from the date of the accident the student obtains medical treatment in Canada
  • Expenses are recommended by a legally qualified physician or dentist
  • Expenses are incurred in Canada
  • Expenses are incurred within 52 weeks of the date of the accident causing injury
